Decent venues in South London? After Friday night's shenanigans at The Walpole, we're going to be giving it a wide berth for the foreseeable future (shame, as aside from the owner, it's a pretty nice pub). Anyway, that leaves us needing a new venue for the Joyzine monthly night. Ideally I'd like to keep it south of the river, so has anyone got any suggestions for venues (ideally around 200 capacity)? I've got a few ideas myself, but would love to hear any extra suggestions (especially from bands/promoters who've had gigs at the venue before).

Yeah, we've had gigs there before & I've always enjoyed it. I'll be looking at the Amersham Arms + Venue in New Cross too.
Does anyone know anything about any of these - I've had various people recommend them, but haven't been to any myself:
Brixton Telegraph
Dirty South
Corsica Studios
Dogstar
Jamm
Plan B

Don't know if they've done anything with the Amersham but it's OK... nothing special like, but it's a sizeable enough venue and the PA, although invisible when on stage (as several sore heads will -*test*-('")ify) does the job.... It must make the crowd look really big from the stage though because when we got abuot 200 people in there one time the promoter swore there were only 80.... Hmmm.....

The Montague Arms in New Cross Gate is a fine venue.
It seems to be run by a gang of very old ladies and has the atmosphere of a cosy village inn, but it does put on randoms gigs from time to time - The Greenwich Pirate zine does its parties there.
